The first week of the semester has started. Here is what it looked like for me:
Sunday
I start the long drive to Cal Poly Pomona from the SF Bay Area, hoping that the rain is over. The song that played the most on the drive was "Heather on the Hill" by Nathan Evans. It has a catchy fiddle melody in the background supporting the folky, romantic lyrics to an energizing rhythm. Listening to it feels similar to listening to Tangled's "Kingdom Dance," The Little Mermaid's "Jig," and How To Train Your Dragon 2's "For the Dancing and the Dreaming."
Monday
First day of the California Faculty Association's (CFA) strike. I naively think that it'd be a good day to grocery shop and prepare for my week ahead. It started to pour. I spend my time reading food labels closer than normal, hoping for a pause in the rain. After the sky turned blue, I drove back to campus as safely as I could. 10 pm, an email appears in my mailbox: the CFA has reached a tentative agreement, the strike is over.
Tuesday
First day of classes! No rain! I put on the clothes neatly arranged over the desk chair and head to my first class: Principles of Macroeconomics. Class ended early after reviewing the syllabus. I had around three hours until the next class, so I decided to get food and knock out some assignments for the week. It's just writing some paragraphs and some reading. Time flies by to the next class: Organizational Behavior. The full class time goes by. I walk to the campus package room thinking that I'll enjoy this semester.
Wednesday
Today's classes: Statistics with Applications and Principles of Marketing Management. Today was a chill day. Just classes, creating my blog, and finishing the process of unpacking the things that I brought from home.
Thursday
Finally back into the schedule of things. Classes are more full than Tuesday. Some more homework down between classes. I was elected as the team leader for my Organizational Behavior team project. I ended the night by winning a few games in GeoGuessr.
Friday
No classes! It was friend hangout day! My friend and I headed to eat all-you-can-eat Korean barbeque, only to discover that we could've been ordering half orders of meat. So, we made a promise that the next time that we go, we'll try more food. We then headed to the new open-to-the-public restaurant supply store in the City of Industry: ResCo Foods. It was an Asian paradise with aisles of bulk fishballs, snacks, and tea. Surprisingly, we did not leave with anything. The only thing that we left with was a plan to come back with a cooler. We took advantage of Nijiya Market's 20% bentos before playing video games and chatting.
Saturday
Family day! I drove down to Orange County to have coffee and lunch with my aunt and uncle. We tried the ube lattes at Airoma Cafe before being surprised by The Dim Sum Co's portions, prices, and flavors. I then drove to Porto's to surprise some more family with snacks. I then spent the rest of the afternoon talking with my uncle, losing to my cousin in games, listening to my other cousin play music, and talking to my aunt and her mom. It was a fun way to avoid traffic and connect with extended family.
